Ditch Mitch Fund Raises Over $1.1 Million in Second Quarter to Defeat Mitch McConnell
Group’s overall fundraising now totals more than $1.5 million from 66,000 donations, an average gift of under $24
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Ditch Mitch Fund announced it raised over $1.1 million in just the second quarter of 2019 to defeat Mitch McConnell and support his Democratic opponent in 2020.
Putting the number into context, the Senate Majority Leader raised a record-breaking $2.1 million in the first quarter of 2019.
The grassroots-funded PAC, which was created last October and has already started running TV ads in Kentucky, has now raised a total of over $1.5 million with more than 66,000 contributions from 40,000 unique donors. The overall average gift is under $24.
Today’s announced fundraising haul includes donations from every state and territory, and the group plans to report over $1 million cash on hand.
“We are building something that Mitch McConnell has never faced before,” said Ryan Aquilina, Executive Director of the Ditch Mitch Fund. “We are building a grassroots movement strong enough, and early enough, to take on McConnell and win. We hope that Amy McGrath sees that, if she decides to run, grassroots donors like ours will be there for her on day one.”
The group has spent the past few months working to recruit Amy McGrath to run against McConnell. They launched a Draft Amy McGrath campaign earlier this year that has received thousands of donations into a ‘draft fund’ on the fundraising platform ActBlue. Every dollar raised into the ‘draft fund’ will be immediately transferred to Amy McGrath’s future campaign as soon as she announces.
The Ditch Mitch Fund, started in October 2018, is a grassroots-funded organization that is solely dedicated to holding Mitch McConnell accountable, supporting his future Democratic opponent, and defeating McConnell once and for all in 2020. To date, the Ditch Mitch Fund has raised over $1.5 million with an average gift of $24.
